Students from our school recently visited Canberra on an educational tour. Our group visited Parliament House, where they participated in a debate in the House of Representatives. At the Federal Electoral Office, they looked at how an election is run and voting takes place. The students explored the many exibits at the War Memorial and had lots of fun exploring science at Questacon. They played on the novel equipment and walked amongst the many rows and varieties of trees at the National Arboretum.
The students were able to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy.
We acknowledge that the excursion was made possible by a contribution from Pacer (Parliament and Civics Education Rebate Program) of $90.00 per student. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education.
